Balance beams
The earlier form of this equipment is made up of polished wood.
But in 1980s, due to safety measures, the beam has been covered
with leather or suede. Today, more and more kinds of covering are
used to cover the beam for a less stressful and more comfortable
use. This equipment is normally 1.25m high from the ground and 5m
long and 10cm wide.
Parallel bars
These are two bars held at a point above the ground by a metal
post or frame. The bars are usually made up of wood, plastic or
other synthetic material that can carry the weight of the gymnasts.
The height of this bar from the ground is 200cm which includes 20cm
of landing mats with 350cm long. The distance between the bars
should be 42 to 52cm apart; this however is adjustable according to
the height and sizing of its users.
Horizontal bar
This is equipment is made up of steel meant for male gymnasts.
This equipment requires wear grip for performing exercises. The
height of this bar from the ground is usually 278cm which also
includes 20cm thick and 240cm long landing mats. The diameter or
the bar should be at 29mm thick.
Gymnastics’ flooring is different from other workout floorings.
The a safe floor for gymnastics is made up of special mat. The
floor’s length and width should be at least 12m and has safety 1m
border. The flooring is made up of plywood and rubber foams. This
greatly reduce stress from jumping and tumbling.
